Dough Recipe
(Because of the danger of the hot water to children, an adult must prepare this
recipe.)
Heat in microwave or stove top: 1/2 cups water and food coloring
Mix together the following in a large bowl: 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 1 tbsp. cream of tartar or alum
Carefully stir in water (you may not need it all).
Once you like the consistency, knead in 1 - 2 tbsp. oil (vegetable or baby)
Let cool before children play with it. Store in an airtight container for several weeks. Use with old cooking utensils, plastic knives, rolling pins, plastic cookie cutters, safety scissors, race cars, animal figurines.
Personal
Pizzas
Combine and leave in a warm place:
¼ cup very warm water
1 tbsp. yeast (one package)
1 tsp. sugar
Combine in food processor for 5 seconds:
2 cups flour
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
½ tsp. salt
Add yeast mixture (when frothy) to food processor and combine for 5 more seconds
Slowly pour in ¼ to ½ cup very warm water, until flour mixture rolls into a ball.
Coat dough ball with a little oil.
Put in very warm place and cover for 5 - 10 minutes to rise.
Cut ball in 4 to 8 pieces. Give each child one ball to flatten or otherwise play with and make into some kind of pizza dough. (For toddlers, you may have to make his or her "edible" pizza in addition to the "interesting" pizza the child creates.)
Put pizza sauce, cheese and toppings in small amounts in bowls for children to decorate their pizzas.
Put pizzas on greased cookie sheet and bake at 450 degrees for 10 - 15 minutes.
Bead
Stringing Project
This is a beautiful project because it is cheap, simple and reusable. You’ll
need
Beads (Our local discount store
sells bags of miscellaneous beads at about $2.50 for several hundred)
Shoe laces (any type)
The child can sort the beads by color,
shape, or size. They can practice tying knots in the laces. They can give the
necklaces as gifts, or practice unstringing the beads and sorting them again.
